British standard - BS 45002-2 General guidelines for the application of ISO 45001 – Part 2: Risks and opportunities – has published

BSI, the business standards company, has just published a new British Standard - BS 45002-2 Occupational health and safety management systems – General guidelines for the application of ISO 45001 – Part 2: Risks and opportunities – to provide help to users who are implementing an international Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) management system based on BS ISO 45001.

This guidance document provides explanations and practical examples of how organizations of all sizes can manage the risks and opportunities in their OH&S management system.

BS 45002-2 is the latest standard to be published within the BS 45002 series that provides additional simple to understand guidance on different aspects of OH&S management, in line with the international standard BS ISO 45001. It can benefit organizations already implementing an OH&S management system standard as well as those who are simply driving improvement in their own OH&S performance.

This series of short standards is intended to provide specific guidance on different aspects of OH&S management in language that non-experts can understand.

Anne Hayes, Head of the Governance and Resilience at BSI, said: “Managing risks and opportunities related to an OH&S management system can be a challenge even for mature organizations with well-established systems and good resources. The guidance provided within BS 45002-2 can help an organization to better identify and understand the work-related risks to their people and how to identify and act on opportunities that will actively improve their OH&S performance.”

The BS 45002 series, which is currently made up of four parts, has replaced the now withdrawn BS 18004, the guidance document to OHSAS 18001.
