BSI India certifies IEC Gensets to BS ISO 50001:2011 Energy Management Systems

Media release

August 2011

IEC Gensets Limited & Core Metal Krafts Limited, based in Chandigarh, is the first group with all it companies in Captive Power Generation (Kirloskar Green Silent Diesel Generating Sets) and medium and low voltage distribution panels to be certified to the Energy Management System BS ISO 50001.

For IEC Gensets, the benefits of achieving certification to BS ISO 50001 include:

  • reducing energy costs via a structured approach to identifying, measuring and managing our energy consumption
  • driving greater productivity by identifying technical point solutions and affecting behavior changes to reduce energy consumption,
  • creating respect for the energy management policy and embedding energy efficient thinking within the organization
  • develop opportunities for new products and services in the low-carbon economy of the future
  • improving reputation and contributing to the global effort of fighting climate change.

To be able to solve the country’s power crisis, India needs to create a balance between the consumption of existing sources and finding solutions to the problem associated with other sources of energy. Smarter use of current resources and implementation of Energy Management Systems such as BS ISO 50001 are one of the major tools by which a developing country like India can hope to face the power shortage effectively.

Mr. Satish Goel, Managing Director, IEC Gensets Ltd, said “With certification to quality (ISO 9001:2008), environmental (ISO 14001:2004), health & safety (OHSAS 18001:2007) and now energy (ISO 50001:2011) management systems, we can cater to our customer needs from concept to execution, ensuring customer satisfaction by optimum use of these standards, as well as helping society by providing low carbon emissions, a better work environment and reduced health & safety risks. Our mission ‘Quality power in need’ would be realized only if we set benchmarks for ourselves for effective use of all these standards. Gaining certification to ISO 50001 will ensure significant cost savings and help us achieve our energy efficiency goals.”

“Our relationship with BSI India has been excellent in terms of the quality of Auditors and knowledge transfer and we are proud to having achieved this feat with commendable work from the team led by Mr. Ashok Kapoor and Mr. Vijay Uppal.” adds Mr Satish Goel.
