Castrol and BSI Kitemark are working together to show that their trusted, respected and valued brands can help educate consumers to make informed choices, in relation to their motoring needs.
Current economic conditions mean that drivers are cutting back on good routine maintenance. They are also buying cheaper products and services which, although saving money in the short term, are leaving them exposed to potential problems and, possibly, safety issues later on.
The Kitemark and Castrol brands share many core values such as trust, integrity and reassurance. Castrol, along with other leading industry representatives was key in the sponsorship and production of the publicly available standards (PAS 80) that formed the foundations of the Kitemark scheme.
Now, Castrol and BSI Product Services have joined forces with consumer motoring champion Quentin Willson to highlight the extent of the problem and call for more informed consumer knowledge.
Quentin Willson commented, "Cars today are sophisticated machines which need professional maintenance and care. Consumers opting for the cheaper option to try to save a bit of cash now will inevitably find themselves with bigger bills down the line. Simple things like ensuring motorists use reputable garages such as those certified by BSI with a Kitemark for Garage Services will ensure they get good quality maintenance and value for money, not to mention peace of mind."
"And consumers also need to be made aware that when it comes to engine oil, gone are the days of 'one size fits all' philosophy. With the vast range of different types of engines and performance cars available today, drivers simply aren't aware that each engine can only function correctly with a certain specification of oil. Asking for advice from a professional will help them to ensure they use the right oil and therefore care for their car correctly," added Mr. Willson.
The Kitemark Garage Services scheme improves standards within the aftermarket vehicle servicing sector and reassures drivers that they will receive honest, fair and safe service.
