Today is World Standards Day – an international celebration of the national and international standards which facilitate trade, spread knowledge and disseminate technical advances.  A key standardization area for BSI is sustainability and the environment and we are using World Standards Day 2008 to reflect on the progress made in this area and to look forward to what is yet to come.

Standards play a crucial role in meeting the demands of the modern world.  They focus on motivating management to develop more sustainable processes, products and services and they inform purchasing decisions by giving customers confidence that their suppliers have attained benchmark levels of sustainability.

BSI recently commissioned a survey to find out more about the attitude of business to the environment.  You can read more about the survey here.

World Standards Day has been celebrated each year on 14 October to pay tribute to the efforts of the hundreds of thousands of experts worldwide who collaborate to create the standards which benefit all of us.  2007 is the 39th World Standards Day.
