If you manufacture, use or test metals, you’ll appreciate the importance of ensuring that your materials meet the current industry standards. BSI publishes important standards for Brinell, Rockwell and Vickers metal tests.
For each test, all parts of the standard should be used. The standards provide guidance on:
- test method
- verification and calibration of testing machines
- calibration of reference blocks
- tables of hardness values.

This part of ISO 6506 specifies the method for the Brinell hardness test for metallic materials and is applicable up to the limit of 650 HBW.
This International Standard draws attention to the fact that only the use of the hardmetal ball indenter is specified.
