PAS aim and scope

Aim

The PAS method for measuring embodied GHG emissions of goods and services will enable organisations, e.g. business, to effectively measure the climate change related impacts of their goods and services with a view to using this information to improve the climate change related performance of these.

Scope

This publicly available specification (PAS) specifies requirements for the assessment of the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions associated with the life cycle of goods and services. This PAS is applicable to organizations assessing the life cycle GHG emissions of goods and services across their life cycle.

The measurement method:

  • Applies to all goods and services with consideration given to how and whether it may need customising for specific product groups, e.g. food, buildings, electronics, etc.
  • Considers all lifecycle stages along the supply/value chain of a product (goods and/or services), i.e. from raw materials to end of life
  • Includes the six GHGs identified under the Kyoto protocol
  • Could be used by all sizes and types of organisations

The PAS is intended as the first step towards a future internationally agreed method for organisations to measure the GHG emissions embodied in their goods and services.
