Very encouraging feedback was received from the four CHESSS World Cafés held in London, Tallinn, Copenhagen and Madrid at the end of last year. The output is currently being gathered in preparation for the final CHESSS event in Brussels in April 2008.
The CEN Horizontal Service Standardization Strategy (CHESSS) initiative – a consortia of national standards bodies from across Europe led by BSI British Standards – continues to move closer towards its objective of establishing whether standards could assist in enhancing the free movement and delivery of services across national borders.
An innovative methodology using a simple conversational process called World Café was used at the workshops. It went down very well with the attendees and generated comments like:
“The inter-relationships and variety of discussion [were a particular strength] as were the blend of delegates and networking opportunities”
“It was very successful in eliciting views and enabling networking. I enjoyed all of it!”
“The main strength is the stimulation of an informal discussion”
“I think that this method is fantastic!”
Output gathered from the workshops and findings from the primary and secondary research phases are currently being consolidated and validated. Once complete the next three months will be spent developing the findings, conclusions and recommendations which will then be presented at the final CHESSS event in Brussels.
Final stage of CHESSS
Hosted by CEN, the CHESSS Initiative project team will deliver their final event on Wednesday 2 April 2008. Called the CHESSS Brussels Seminar this will give stakeholders a final chance to meet the project team, receive updates about the project and offer more generic feedback on the future of standardization. The feedback received will be considered during the drafting of the final report which will be submitted to CEN and the European Commission in mid-June. The report will be made publicly available on the CEN and CHESSS websites.
