As the UK’s National Standards Body (NSB), BSI works closely with government to represent the interests and needs of the UK in its formal standardization activity. BSI involves a wide number of UK government departments and agencies in the production of formal national, European and international standards. They participate in technical committees along with representatives from business, academia and consumer groups to make sure that products, processes, new technologies and services incorporate the knowledge and needs of all interested parties.

In the international arena, BSI British Standards does a lot of work in collaboration with or in support for other countries. As well as licensing British Standards abroad, this includes ‘twinning’ to help build standardization capabilities in less developed countries, as well as influencing European and international standards forums.
