We can help you to lead the development of an industry standard, driven by your requirements, but with the credibility of BSI's consensus building process.
The resulting standard can either be publicly available (called a PAS) or a private standard.
Creating a credible standard shows customers, supply chain partners or other stakeholders that you're a subject expert. It can also help your processes and proceedure become recognized best-practice.
BSI is skilled at engaging with stakeholders - on an individual or consortium basis – to collaboratively produce BSI-endorsed Publicly Available Specifications (PAS). The result: agenda-setting clarity - achieved cost effectively and quickly.

Helping the direct marketing industry reduce waste, avoid new legislation and save costs
The Direct Marketing Association (DMA) required a PAS to address several key issues it was facing. First the DMA’s members were increasingly asking for clear information on how to reduce their environmental impacts, and the DMA wanted to give sound advice.
At the same time the public and government saw the industry as wasting limited resources – especially paper – a view the DMA wanted to tackle.
Additionally, the DMA had signed a voluntary agreement with DEFRA to increase the amount of direct marketing material being recycled but missed the 2005 target.
With no significant improvement by 2007, the DMA needed to act quickly and decisively to meet the 2009 target. Without a demonstrable change, the industry would probably face legislation that restricted direct marketing activities – e.g. limits on the volume of promotional mail being sent.

Towards zero waste in Wales
Constructing Excellence in Wales (CEW) is charged with leading the effort to reduce construction waste in Wales. This type of waste is important because it represents 69%* of the total controlled waste produced. This makes it central to achieving the Welsh Government’s waste objectives.
When CEW started looking at the issues in the sector, it found that construction companies depended heavily on their waste management contractor for their recovery and landfill diversion data. This data was usually unverified, undermining accurate reporting of the industry’s performance.
CEW realized that a standardized method for reporting what happens to waste was needed. This methodology would generate reliable data and create a foundation on which to build performance improvements ahead of new regulations.
