TV watchdog appointed Chair of UK Consumer Committees
Lynn Faulds Wood is the new Chair of BSI’s Consumer & Public Interest Strategic Advisory Committee (CPISAC) and Network of CPI volunteers.
Lynn presented the popular BBC consumer rights TV programme, Watchdog, for nine years, helping to bring in many new laws (bunk beds, cookers), new British Standards (toasters, food processors, irons, condoms) and multi-million pound recalls (cars, cookers, pushchairs). She was also responsible for the redesign of many household products.
Since surviving a battle with bowel cancer in the early 1990s, Lynn has focused on helping to produce evidence-based improvements in survival from this common cancer (e.g. the world's first research-based symptoms guidance, formal training courses in colonoscopy etc.), as well as campaigning for her charity “Lynn’s Bowel Cancer Campaign”. Lynn is President of the European Cancer Patient Coalition (ECPC).
Lynn’s passion for consumer rights and evidence-based research makes her the ideal candidate to tackle issues of public interest from the viewpoint of the general public and to ensure that the consumer voice is heard in standards development.
Lynn will also help BSI with preparations for hosting COPOLCO’s (ISO’s Consumer Policy Committee) annual meeting in London in 2011.
