CEN and CENELEC increase their co-operation

CEN and CENELEC have taken several initiatives this year to increase their co-operation and efficiency, the creation of a combined management centre to pool resources of the "back-office" functions and a common CEN/CLC Director General - more details….

New CEN/CLC Management Centre (CCMC)
Following the decision to establish a common Management Centre for CEN and CENELEC (CCMC) by the General Assembly (AG) in June 2009, a new CCMC structure, to be fully operational from 1 January 2010, has been introduced.  CCMC will constitute a key factor in improving the effectiveness and efficiency of the European Standardization System and a driver towards innovation through standardization.

The AG’s approval of the CCMC structure, mission statement and resource will foster closer cooperation between CEN and CENELEC, will optimize synergies and capitalize on resources for the benefit of all relevant stakeholders.  These last decisions will conclude PHASE I of FLES (Future Landscape for European Standardization) and prepare the way for the implementation of FLES II – in support of a more competitive and innovative European economy.

Jean-Paul Vetsuypens currently the Technical Director of CENELEC has been appointed Technical Director of CCMC.

Common CEN/CLC Director General
On 1 January 2010, Elena Santiago will become the first Joint Director General of both CEN and CENELEC, this position is an essential part of the European Standardisation Strategy to increase the co-ordination and development of European Standardisation.

New Joint CEN/CLC Presidential Committee
This new Committee will comprise the new Joint Director General, the CEN President, the CLC President and three vice Presidents. Their remit is to strengthen the dialogue between the two organisations and build non-Sector specific external relationships.
