6th Standard Makers’ Forum

Shirley Bailey-Wood addressing delegates at the Standard Makers' Forum

Using a more interactive format to allow optimum networking opportunities for technical committee chairmen the 6th Standard Makers’ Forum took place in October at the Institute of Directors. BSI British Standards updates were given from Mike Low, Director of BSI British Standards and Shirley Bailey-Wood, Operations Director. David Jackman, Chairman of SDS/1 – Sustainable Development gave an engaging insight into his committee work as part of a chairman’s case study slot.

Over 90 committee chairmen took part in the event which included an ‘Information Zone’ - exhibition-style stands showcasing other elements of standards-making. The event also saw the return of the Chairmen’s Peer Panel which offered the opportunity to discuss the practical challenges of being a BSI committee chairman and find out from others how they have addressed similar issues. The panel was made up of chairmen from a mixture of sectors; David Jackman, Steve Corbet – B/526/4 Strengthened/Reinforced Soils & other fills, Elizabeth Fox – TC!/66 Apparel and interior textiles and Tony Maddocks – GEL/210 Electrical Machinery and Components Policy Committee.
