IEC have issued the December 2007 Edition of e-Tech, accessible from their website http://www.iec.ch/online_news/etech/, it gives updates on activities within IEC. The December edition highlights a new IEC subcommittee SC 31M Non-electrical equipment and protective systems for explosive atmospheres which is beginning work. This is special because as stated in the e-Tech:
"IEC SC31M is a rather new breed, or hybrid, of committee in the IEC, because it was created out of the need to avoid duplication of work within IEC and ISO and shows the lengths to which the two organizations will go to ensure optimal international standardization. It was hailed as a historic moment for both IEC and ISO. SC31M will be starting with conversion of existing market relevant regional standards into International Standards: "The first project will be converting a European standard EN 13980, which is a quality standard."
In addition to this article, there is an update on "watt watt", the IEC's community for electrical energy efficiency, information about a component recognition programme workshop, and a risk management workshop held by IECEE, details of IEC activities at the world energy congress, information about new affiliate countries as well as other articles.
