CEN StandarDay

Image: CEN logoCEN recently organized its first StandarDay - a training session for newcomers to standardization and people who need to know more about the way the standardization process works.

The training session was open to people from industry, media, European or national public authorities, National Standards Bodies, research centres etc. It was held in the CEN Management Centre and was free to participants.

The one-day session aimed to give participants the opportunity to learn about the:

  • actors in European standardization and contacts in CEN: WHO
  • standardization process: HOW
  • CEN products (European Standards, CEN Workshop Agreements): WHAT.

There was sufficient time for several presentations, as well as lively discussion. Some 125 attendees from 12 countries reported they had attended an informative and interesting day.

The programme included the following points:

  • the new CEN web site www.cen.eu (all CEN email addresses will now end with @cen.eu)
  • the areas where Standards are used in the everyday life, effecting everybody everyday
  • the difference between the CEN keymark and the CE mark
  • the development of an EN Standard with its various stages
  • the various CEN publications
  • the aim to make CEN more transparent by providing participants with direct contact details (if help is needed), leaflets and the possibility to meet people.

A second StandarDay is planned for April 17 2007.
