Friday 14th October saw the annual celebration of World Standards Day. BSI marked the day for the second year running with a campaign to raise awareness of standardization through the national media.
This year, British Standards published the BSI Business Barometer - a survey of 100 senior decision makers in FTSE 250 companies to find out just how prepared they are for the business of being in business.
The good news is that two thirds (64%) think that consumers will view a company that applies our standards differently from one that doesn't. And those that currently use standards are three times better prepared for crises than those that don't.
However, despite natural and industrial disasters accounting for many thousands of deaths and injuries each year, not to mention material and social damage, as many as 45% said they were not ready to manage modern risks.
The story was picked up by a range of media including CNBC Europe, BBC News 24, Forbes.com and the Daily Mail.
A copy of the press release is available from the newsroom on the BSI website.
The international theme for World Standards Day 2006 will be small business.
