There's a new CEN procedure for new work items. Many TCs find the three-year target for developing an EN a bit daunting, because the starting gun is fired the moment a new work item is agreed by the TC. However, TCs can now register preliminary work items on their work programme without starting the clock.
This authorizes work in the TC before the official gun goes off, which means, for example, that claims under the DTI travel fund can be made and, if necessary, our mirror-TCs can set up groups to provide UK input.
This 'pre-adoption' of work items enables the TC to define its future programme. The preliminary work items can easily be made active when the TC is able to provide a feasibility study or early draft proving that the three-year timeframe can be met.
