Following on from the advance notice in the winter edition of the newsletter we are pleased to announce that in March we launched two new online systems at our stand at the Trade Association Forum Annual Conference.
http://standardsdevelopment.bsigroup.com
The main site is a portal that provides access to information on Standards Development. It is an easy to search facility and provides lists of projects in development, standards published, new proposals and drafts on the online DPC review site as well as providing details of committee titles, scopes, nominating organizations and their related portfolios. From the portal users can access the draft review site to comment, suggest ideas for new standards and link to the new proposals online system and the BSI shop.

The new work proposal system has new work proposals of International, European and National origin, whether a new standard, a revision or a new field of technical activity. The information consists of at least the scope and purpose of the proposal and in some cases will have a draft attached.
For the first time we can gather comments from a wider audience at the earliest stage in a project, which is especially useful in new areas and can also assist in identifying support for national standards and additional interested parties to get involved in the project. Links to the entries can be disseminated via committee members and other means and comments that are received are then submitted to the committee for their consideration in deciding the UK position on the proposal.
We are undertaking a short review in July of the systems based on feedback received as we know that there were some issues at the outset with data quality, but we are working on this and in the meantime the feedback has generally been very positive.
