ISO Standards Development – Future Directions

ISO Standards Development – Future DirectionsThe ISO/Technical Management Board (TMB) has formed a Process Evaluation Group (PEG) to assess the effectiveness of the current ISO processes and subsequently develop recommendations for consideration by the TMB as appropriate.

The intention of the PEG’s efforts is to reinforce the reputation and value of ISO’s approach to international standardization, particularly the strength and authority of International Standards and the processes by which they are produced.

In order to fulfil its tasks the PEG has prepared the following generic set of questions:

1. Do you think that there are specific subjects of a global nature (e.g. emerging  technologies, standards supporting public policies, standards addressing subjects such as societal issues, fraud or security) that would benefit from  different operational and participation models than the traditional ISO approaches and model? If no, please explain why.

2. If yes, which subjects and why?

3. If yes, what would you recommend as important elements of how alternative operational and participation models should work?

The BSI ISO/TMB member will be providing a response to these questions and therefore wants to hear the views of the national committees in order to help shape the BSI response.

Please provide individual / technical committee comments to these questions and submit them to: bsi.survey@bsigroup.com by no later than 30 September 2010.

BSI looks forward to receiving your feedback. If you have any questions, please email bsi.survey@bsigroup.com.
