The 4th CEN-CENELEC Annual Meeting is hosted by ASRO, the Romanian Standards Association and will take place in Bucharest from 24 - 26 June 2008.
The theme of the open session on 25 June is European Standards in support of market surveillance.
The application of European Standards is a concrete way for manufacturers to demonstrate compliance of products with the essential requirements of those European Directives incorporating the principle of presumption of conformity. The New Package on Internal Market for Goods, adopted by the European Parliament last February, emphasizes conformity assessment and market surveillance.
Adequate market surveillance is necessary to support the principles embodied in the New Approach directives. Therefore the European Standards Organizations should use their strengths in the area of European Standards to assist in the development of efficient European infrastructures to coordinate market surveillance policy and processes.
Contributions and panel discussions will cover the role of European standards in strengthening the market through effective surveillance :
- Market Surveillance in Romania and Malta
- Sector cases - Market Surveillance and the European Standardization System
Enhancing Market Surveillance through best practices
- Child resistance in lighters: Child-appealing appliances and luminaires
