IT developments in ISO

Image: ISO logoISO continues to use IT tools to aid the standardization process. New technologies and improvements to existing IT tools aid and speed up the standardization process.

In the last few years we have seen striking improvements to the committee websites and database of draft in development. These make the process of developing a standard more transparent by allowing members to follow more closely what is happening.

For secretariats there have been even more dramatic improvements to the working environment. The advent of the Global Directory has allowed each National Standards Body (NSB) to add its own users. This has made time savings for secretariats who no longer need to administer this function. Further developments are planned for the next few months and include automatic notification to Convenors and the secretariats when a new expert is added to a working group, the ability for the secretariat to add convenors or liaison members as a separate group for notifications. The launch of the committee-internal-ballot application, which will enable secretariats to launch ballots within the committees and Global Directory users access. It has also been made easier to upload and download committee documents to the committee websites.
