Following on from the Committee Operating Plans, produced towards the end of 2005, it became clear that the standards development programme naturally segmented into six primary market groupings. As a result, we have refined the BS Operations structure and recently implemented organisational changes within British Standards' (BS) core Operations team. The Operations area of the BS business has been organised into 6 key sector clusters, establishing a clear market focus across the BS organisation.
These new sector clusters came into effect on 3rd April 2006 with the primary focus of developing new opportunities and delivering the formal standards programme for each area.
Each sector team is led by a Head of Market Development who is supported by a team of Committee Managers & Programme Managers. The six sectors and their Heads of Market Development are outlined below:
- Carolyn White - Construction
- Nicki Dennis - Risk, Quality and Health and Safety
- Anne Hayes - Sustainability (Environment, Transport, Energy, Food/Drink and Agriculture)
- Richard Taylor - ICT and Electronics
- Dan Palmer - Manufacturing and Services
- Breda Corish - Materials and Healthcare
These sector clusters reflect new areas as well as traditional, and will be kept under constant review to ensure they evolve over time to reflect changing market & societal needs.
This re-organisation is an important development for British Standards, enabling BS to more effectively deliver for its stakeholders and respond to market needs. The organisation will be better placed to exploit new opportunities in growth areas and develop relevant formal standards and related information products in core sectors.
