Eligibility for borrowing
All current subscribing BSI members based in the UK and Ireland are eligible to use the loan service. All users must quote a valid BSI membership account number and provide contact details (including email) in order to borrow items from the BSI Knowledge Centre. If a borrower persistently fails to return documents or pay invoices, access to the loan service will be withdrawn.
Loanable collections
The majority of foreign and international standards can be borrowed. Loans can be dispatched to any address within the UK and Ireland.
No British Standards (current or withdrawn) can be loaned. No standards that are identical to British Standards can be loaned.
All British Standards are available for reference use by BSI members at the BSI Knowledge Centre in Chiswick during office hours. Copies of withdrawn British Standards may be purchased through the BSI Knowledge Centre. Current publications can be purchased through BSI Customer Services.
Copyright compliance
All BSI Knowledge Centre items are protected by copyright and it is the responsibility of users to keep within copyright law. It is against the law to copy, scan, or reproduce any copyright-protected materials without the permission of the copyright holder unless for the purpose of private study or research for a non-commercial purpose.
Loan period
The loan period is twenty (20) working days from the date the item is posted. If you do not receive the item within five (5) working days of dispatch, it is your responsibility to notify BSI Knowledge Centre. The due date is shown on the loan letter accompanying the loan item. All items must be received by us by the due date.
If BSI Knowledge Centre does not receive the item by the due date, it will be automatically renewed and your account will be charged.
We recommend that you return all items by recorded delivery as we will not accept responsibility for lost items.
Renewals
If an outstanding loan item has not been received by BSI Knowledge Centre staff by the due date, we will automatically renew the loan for a further period and charge your account with the standard renewal fee. All loan items may be renewed automatically up to two (2) times unless reserved by another user and all normal loan conditions will still apply. You will be notified of renewals by email.
Charges
All loan transactions are charged to your BSI membership account. BSI members will be invoiced at the end of each month for any loans. Loan transactions can also be paid for by credit or debit card on request.

Postage and package charges
All items are posted First Class, Royal Mail. Postage and package charges are included in the cost of each loan.
Charges for lost / damaged items
BSI members will be responsible for all lost and damaged items. Members will be charged for the cost of replacing the item, plus a £15 (+VAT) administration fee. The charges will be added to your BSI membership account ten (10) working days from the last return date or immediately upon notification of loss.
