How we produce British Standards

BSI British Standards is globally recognized as an independent distributing standards organization serving both the private and public sectors. BSI British Standards' standards are formed by committees representing key interests.

BS 0 - A standard for standards

The standard that governs the way BSI British Standards produces standards, BS 0, was revised and came into effect on 1 January 2006.

It is now published in two parts:

- Part 1, Development of standards - Specification (PDF 217kb)

- Part 2, Structure and drafting - Requirements and guidance (PDF 213kb)

The standard is supplemented by the BSI Guide to Standardization, a document in several sections that is designed to give practical information to members of BSI British Standards' technical committees about standards and how we make them. It is envisaged that these guidelines will be updated regularly to reflect changes in circumstances, policies and procedures.
