The Pressure Equipment Directive (PED) (97/23/EC) places responsibility for safety on the manufacturer and is applicable to all pressure equipment put into service within the European Union. Pressure equipment with a maximum allowable pressure greater than 0.5 bar, such as boilers, vessels, piping and valves which can be dangerous if established rules have not been met prior to installation are, in most cases, pertinent to this Directive.
