Polymeric pipes and fittings can be used for many applications: water supply, gas supply, telecommunications and electrical cabling. Typical installations include; waste water and drainage; hot and cold domestic heating systems; rainwater systems, water supply systems and gas distribution.

The BSI Kitemark® has been associated with testing and certification of polymeric pipes for over 30 years and BSI Product Services operates over 40 different Kitemark® schemes for polymeric pipes and fittings. Kitemark® certification aims to deliver a fast, flexible service to manufacturers to meet global market requirements. This can include developing new certification schemes against regional publicly available standards. In the UK, Kitemark® schemes have also recently been developed against Gas Industry Specifications (GIS) to aid with gas industry regulation of products. With over 100 years of history and over 80% consumer recognition, the Kitemark® provides consumers, insurers and specifiers with peace of mind and confidence that the product has been independently assessed by BSI Product Services to the required standards.
