BSI Product Services offer a Qualification Scheme for Aerospace Fasteners and Fastenings to BS Standards.
This scheme provides the aerospace components industry with an independent qualification service that enables them to demonstrate compliance through a qualification certificate.
The scheme developed in conjunction with, and endorsed by, the Technical Committee, ACE/12, clearly defines the test and certification requirements and not only qualifies the component but ensures that it is manufactured under an approved quality system.
Based on witness testing, the scheme covers the following imperial components for aircraft:
- Clinch nuts (BS122/123/124)
- Stiff nuts (BS125-132, 136-143,147-168,180,181,186, 201, 213-216)
- Steel double hexagon bolts (BS228)
- Carbon steel worm drive clamps (BS SP91-92)
- Corrosion resisting worm drive clamps (BS SP144-147)
A pre-requisite for application is a valid BS EN 9100:2003 (was AS9100) or ISO 9001:2000 quality management certificate. BS EN 9100:2003 is the mandated aerospace quality management system, which specifies requirements based on the international standard, ISO 9001:2000. For more information on BS EN9100.
Companies whose products are approved under this scheme will receive a Qualification Certificate, valid for 3 years from date of issue, with which they can demonstrate compliance. This in turn should enable them to avoid multiple qualification visits from individual purchasers.
