If you know what you want to buy, use the search box in the top right-hand corner of each page on the BSI site.

Type in the standard number, publication title or keywords. The search will run through both shop and information pages on the site. When the results page appears, you may filter the results to standards and publications available in the BSI Shop by clicking on the “Standards & Publications” link on the left-hand side of the screen. You can also filter the results to training courses available in the BSI Shop (please note that other training courses are also available but are not for sale online - go out to “Training & Conferences” area via the top navigation bar to see the full offering).

If you wish to search only within the shop itself, navigate to the BSI Shop using the top navigation bar. Then select “Standards & Publications” or “Training & Conferences” on the left-hand side. A search box that will only search the relevant shop products will appear at the top of the page.

For more information on searching see Search Tips.
Once you find the product you wish to purchase in the list of results, you can either add it to your basket straight away or click on the title for further product details.

From the product detail page you can also purchase the product online by clicking “Add to Basket”.

This will put the product into “Your Basket”. The basket box will now appear on the right-hand side of all the pages you view and will indicate how many products you have selected. You can always delete items from your basket.

Some products are available as downloads as well as hard copies. If this is the case, the option to purchase the soft copy will automatically be displayed on the product detail page. If you wish to purchase the hard copy, click on “Hardcopy” in the line of text below the product details.
Not all standards and publications are available as a PDF download, please check your delivery method and details of format carefully.

If you wish to change the delivery format once it has been added to your basket, you will need to remove the product from your basket and return to the product detail page.
As standards are continuously being reviewed and developed, it is important to know their status. The following list explains the different terms used to describe a product’s status in the BSI Shop.

Obsolescent - indicating by amendment that the standard is not recommended for use for new equipment, but needs to be retained to provide for the servicing of equipment that is expected to have a long working life, or due to legislative issues.
Partially replaced - the standard has been partially replaced by one or more other standards.
Proposed for confirmation - the standard is being reviewed and it has been proposed that it is confirmed as the current standard.
Proposed for obsolescence - the standard is being reviewed and it has been proposed that it is made obsolescent.
Proposed for withdrawal - the standard is being reviewed and it has been proposed that it is withdrawn.
Revised - the standard has been revised.
Superseded - the standard has been replaced by one or more other standards.
Under review - the standard is under review.
Withdrawn - the document is no longer current and has been withdrawn.
Work in hand - there is work being undertaken on the standard and there may be a related draft for public comment available.

VAT Questions
VAT information is available on the “what is a VAT number” page.
Once you choose to checkout with your selected item(s), you will be asked to log in if you have not already done so. If you have not used the BSI Shop before you will need to register - see help on Registration and log in.
You will then be asked for your billing address (this will be the address that is registered for the credit card you use for purchase), delivery address, your VAT number if applicable, and your credit card details. Where appropriate, VAT is added to your order total at this stage.

If you entered contact details when you registered, these will be brought up as the default billing address. You are able to edit this address or add a new one if you wish.

If you are purchasing any hard copies of products, you will also be asked to enter a delivery address and select a delivery option. If you are purchasing soft copies, please check that your organization's firewall and policies allow downloads.
You will then be asked to enter your payment details.

Once you have entered your payment details, your order summary is displayed. At this stage, you are still able to amend or cancel your order. You must confirm that you have agreed to the terms and conditions before you can place your order. Once you have clicked “Place your order”, you cannot make any changes. If there is a problem with your payment details, an error message will appear and the order will not be processed.

Once the purchase is made, you will receive an email confirmation of your order. If you have ordered any soft copy versions, you will receive immediate access to your purchased download(s).
Download expiry
Downloads are available for 72 hours after purchase. If you try to download the product after this time you will receive a termination message. If you wish to reactivate your download please contact the BSI Shop Online Support help desk using the details below.

What is a VAT registration number?
A VAT registration number is alphanumeric and consists of up to 15 characters. The first two letters indicate the respective member state, for example DE for Germany. All vendors who are entitled to deduct input VAT can receive a VAT registration number from their local tax authority.
When entering your VAT number, it must include the two letters that identify your EU member state (e.g. DK for Denmark, EL for Greece, and GB for the United Kingdom).
How is VAT calculated?
The VAT calculated in your order will depend on where you are located and the product that you have selected.
Training
For training services, VAT will apply depending on where the training is physically performed.
For example
- Training takes place in the UK: Standard rate VAT of 17.5% applies
- Training takes place in the EU (excluding the UK): Outside the scope of UK VAT. A zero tax rate will be applied to your order providing you are registered for and are able to supply a valid VAT number in the country where the training takes place
- Training takes place in a country outside of the EU: Outside the scope of UK VAT. A zero tax rate will be applied to your order.
Electronically supplied services
- For items downloaded in the UK, UK VAT applies at the standard rate of supply 17.5%.
• For items downloaded in the EU (excluding the UK) where the customer is in business and provides a valid VAT number, the supply is outside the scope of UK VAT. Zero-rate VAT applies.
• For items downloaded in the EU (excluding the UK) where the customer is not in business, UK VAT applies at the standard rate of supply 17.5%.
For items downloaded outside the EU, the supply is outside the scope of UK VAT. No VAT applies.
Incorrect VAT information
If, as a result of the consumers giving the seller incorrect information, a sale that should have been inclusive of VAT is made without VAT being charged, the seller may recover a sum from the consumer equal to the VAT that should have been charged.
