What is the SIA ACS?

The voluntary ACS scheme was developed by the SIA in partnership with leading security professionals. It applies to parts of the security industry regulated by the SIA and the Private Security Industry Act 2001. Companies that comply with the scheme are recognized as competent and well managed. It also provides assurance of the quality of the security service supplied.

From 20 March 2006, licences were legally required for security staff working for security companies that provide services on a contract outlined in the PSIA 2001. Later this year business licences will also be required for the security company. Being accredited to the ACS will be a pathway for the security company to gain a business licence.

Other pathways to get your business licence include ISO 9001 and Product Certification.



How to join the SIA-ACS scheme

We make the process simple by carrying out pre-certification assessment on behalf of the SIA. That means we apply our knowledge and experience to help you get the best for your business with SIA-ACS.

  1. First you register with the SIA who will decide eligibility
  2. Request access to the self-assessment workbook from the SIA
  3. Use the workbook to carry out your self-assessment and make sure you meet all the requirements
  4. Record your scores and evidence in the workbook throughout the process. Once this is complete you will share this information with the SIA via an online system
  5. We will then carry out an assessment to verify your scores and supporting evidence. When the assessment is completed successfully we will recommend your company to the SIA for certification
  6. Once certified, your company can display the Approved Contractor certificate in your reception or boardroom, and use the logo on your website, vehicles or wherever you wish to promote your ACS certification
