Emergency Lighting aims to ensure adequate lighting to escape routes from buildings so that people may get out easily and safely even if there is a power loss. These systems are most commonly linked to Fire Detection and Alarm Systems. Not only must premises contain emergency lighting and escape route signage, the equipment installed must be the correct type, installed in the correct location and satisfy the requirements of BS 5266.

If your business is involved in the design, installation, inspection, test, certification, and/or maintenance of emergency lighting systems, then BSI Kitemark certification could be a good way of differentiating your business.

With high levels of recognition and trusted as a mark of quality for over 100 years, the BSI Kitemark is an independent third party certification scheme that shows that a you are serious about quality and safety.

To achieve the Kitemark we check the quality and safety of work carried out on a regular basis. This certification scheme is built in a modular format which covers design, installation, inspection, testing, and maintenance. When you have successfully achieved this certification you will also be registered with BAFE on the SP-203-4 scheme.

For manufacturers of lighting products

If you manufacture luminaires and lighting, we are also able to test and certify these products to a number of different standards including the BS EN 60598 series of standards.
